Mozilla Firefox 56.0

One of the main effects of the Firefox 56.0.1 update was to switch 64-bit Windows users from the traditional 32-bit version of Firefox to the 64-bit version. We've received a number of puzzling reports of Firefox either not starting (probably due to incompatibilities with 64-bit drivers that Firefox expects/requires) or not loading any pages.

  1. Check your Firefox version (in the “About Firefox” window) and look for “ (32-bit)” or “ (64-bit)” after the version number: If you see “ (32-bit)” and you are running Firefox 56.0 or older, updating to the latest Firefox version should automatically upgrade you to 64-bit.

Note: Mozilla began to automatically switch users from 32-bit Firefox to 64-bit Firefox, starting with the update to Firefox version 56.0.1 on October 9, 2017. See How do I tell if I have the 32-bit or 64-bit Firefox? to find out if you already have 64-bit Firefox. To learn more, see this Mozilla blog post and this Mozilla Wiki.

The 64-bit version of Firefox can provide better performance than the 32-bit version. 64-bit Firefox requires a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or higher. To see if you have a 64-bit Windows version visit this Microsoft help page.

Mozilla Firefox Update

I recently migrated all of my files and applications from a 2013 macbook retina pro that had FF 56.0.2 to a 2020 macbook retina pro. The application transferred over with no problems with one exception. I have a blog on livejournal.com and now cannot post or reply to comments on the blog. How to add my gmail contacts to iphone. FF just hangs and freezes. I can't even quit the page unless I quit FF totally and then restart. I can still access livejournal from Safari w/no problems. I checked my extensions (only have two) and disabled hardware acceleration but nothing has helped. Does anyone have any suggestion? I'm not crazy about safari and would like to continue to use FF. Thanks so much for any help!
